Dear Reader,
Dodger the rescue beagle and I have just returned from his morning constitutional. The field he likes to walk in is now seemingly home to a large flock of geese, probably parking themselves here as a pitstop before flying south for the winter.
As we enter the field they tend to fly off in a group (see the picture above) and circle round in a cluster until we leave again before landing once more.
I was struck by this and it came to mind that really they look like a bunch of fund managers all mimicking each others portfolios to one degree or another. Your returns whether they are buyers of GM rather than Ford in their Automotive selection or BP rather than Shell in their petroleum selection will only slightly affect your returns over time. Kind of like a flock of geese circling a field all roughly in the same airspace.
Personally I want my fund managers to be more like peregrine .falcons. Fast agile adaptable and lethal in certain situations. Did you know female peregrine falcons are larger than the males and they are the fastest animal on earth with a top recorded speed of 389kmh. They are found everywhere on earth and are the most widespread raptor.
Just a Thursday thought. Less goose more falcon.
