Dear Reader,
Barry has taken to biting my knees at 3 am to try and get a bit of attention. We often have long conversations in the small hours about Monetary theory. I folllow the Austrian school and he is firmly on the side of John Maynard Keynes. Personally I think it is only because Keynes mentions Cats and Kittens in his work on General theory.
Have got to say you wouldn't' want to be stuck in a lift with Keynes. He sounds as much fun as dentistry. Secretly I think Barry is flirting with Modern Monetary Theory but he won't admit it.
As an aside to today's article. Did I ever mention I applied to go on The Apprentice for a laugh? I had come up with a brilliant business plan called 'Guide Cats for the Blind'. Not everyone likes dogs and just think where your guide cat might lead you (up the curtains most likely). Anyway weirdly they seemed to like my style and I was offered an audition. Sadly I couldn't make the dates but I often wonder what would have if I had actually ended up on the show with the bunch of muppets they normally select. I was quite looking forward to talking about bikes with Alan Sugar.
Anyway the markets are having a bit of sick week. I am tempted to say they are currently lying on a beach in Rimini and will be back towards the end of August. If you looked at the NASDAQ over one year you would be looking at -0.32% returns but a key point to note that from Jan 2 2019 it is still up 17.96%. Sometimes even the markets need a holiday to recharge. All the indices I follow are still green year to date.
For those of you who with UK work experience being put off transferring by the low GBP EUR rate (as of writing 1.0857) I want to remind you all we can transfer in GBP to avoid taking a hit from relatively current low rates. Happy to have a conversation about FX at any time.
I will cut this short as I am currently trying to write this in the back of a taxi and the driver seems to be trying out emergency stops every 500 yards.
Barry wanted me to remind you there are 85 days until BREXIT
