Time In The Saddle  ...  The acronym TITS is one of my favourite cycling terms. Half the battle of becoming a sleek two wheeled lycra clad warrior is actually just spending a lot of time acclimatising your bottom to the pain of sitting on a knife edge for hours at a time.

Today I am going to  gain 1000 meters by cycling up and down a hill just outside my house. Technically I have already done 300 meters of it as I went out before swimming at 5:30 due to the cat waking me up again.

There is a holy grail for seasoned cyclists called Everesting. You basically find a steep hill and go up and down it repeatedly in one go until you gain 8,848 meters or  29,002 feet if you are British.   I still havent had the nerve to do one.  As it stands there are only 3,455 submitted bike everesters on the hall of fame page

Some 37 year old bloke called Daryl Chan did it in 7 hours in Singapore in Bukit Batok Nature park. Part of me thinks Bukit Batok is probably just some Singaporean swearword for 'goddamn my bottom hurts'.

Anyway the simile stands trying to gain height on a bike over time is very like investing in the markets ( Not another Swiss Toni metaphor I hear you all groan).  Eventually over time returns will accrue even in markets that have up and downswings.

With that happy thought and two pairs of shorts on I am off out on my bike - enjoy the weekend
